If this is “gospel music” of 2009, I certainly don’t want to be a part of it!

Perhaps this is a part of “Change”?

I prefer the God of the Ages, who came in the form of His only Son, Jesus the Christ, to redeem his people from all their lawless deeds, and then gave Himself up for us, that He might redeem for Himself a people… zealous for good deeds!”

Bringing Home the Gold!

Today was the MN Special Olympics – State Swim Meet.

Jessica had two events today, and enjoyed herself. She now has two, count’em two more Gold’s to add to her collection. Her coach and Personal Trainer, is Bethany. Jessica really enjoys her time with Bethany and all her PCA’s.

Back Home & Thankful for a great trip!

Here are some photos from our last day.

We were able to do a 2-hour sail on Monday 3/16.

It was a “whale watch”, and we did see whales! (Lots of whales!!!)

The return flight was good… better than than the flight to Hawaii. We were able to sleep most of the way home, as it was a “red eye” flight. Now the challenge will be to acclimate to the time change, and resume daily life and schedules.

Jessica was very happy to see us, and we took her out to Chili’s for dinner. Chili’s is one of Jessica’s favorite places to eat out.

The video photographer in the photos below, recorded our adventure on the boat. We will get a DVD of the sail along with additional footage of whales and their life between Hawaii and Alaska and how they live their lives. The whales typically live about the same life span as us… 65-80+ years.

I am looking forward to seeing the DVD.

It was great to have this special time away, and we are very thankful for the help and care we received for Jessica, in our absence.

Thanks to…. Bethany, Danielle, Tami, Carla, Jodie, Scott & others… we were able to do this trip.

This trip was in honor of our 31st anniversary, that we’ll celebrate this coming August.

In addition to being thankful that we had a great vacation and that we returned safely to Jessica; I am glad to be back in the daily routine of life.

Thanks be to our great GOD and Savior, the LORD Jesus Christ!

For, “He is the Creator & Sustainer” of all living things…and is returning for those who know Him, and are awaiting His appearing.

This is how we awoke at our timeshare on Kauai, Tuesday morning.

Here is a walk on the East coast area of Kauai. As you can see the water is a rockin' and a rollin'.

Wednesday we flew to Maui. We are praying for calmer seas, and an opportunity to sail and snorkel.

It is now Thursday morning, guess what….”its raining”!!!

We’ll have breakfast and pour over our many brochures to determine our plan of adventure.

Kauai’s Winter Weather… Improving

Yesterday we were planning to head to the south and east side of the island.

Our plans were thwarted however by a major mudslide that closed the only road.

We chose to do a u-turn and visit the end of the road near the Napoli Coast.

It was a good call, as we had a great time at Ke’e beach and we even got sunshine.

This morning Sandra said I look like a lobster.

Swimming was too great, however as you can see by the warning signs on the guard tower.

No God Condones What?
The President and the Innocent

February 10, 2009

At the National Prayer Breakfast last week, President Obama seemed to signal that he has seen the light and is abandoning his radically pro-abortion agenda.

At least, that’s the only reasonable conclusion one could make after hearing the President, who says he's a Christian, also say: “There is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being. This much we know.”

So I could only surmise that the President now concludes that “no God” would condone the 1.6 million abortions performed each year in America—1.6 million innocent lives destroyed.

But I’ve checked the White House website, and it’s very clear that God’s disapproval hasn't changed the administration’s agenda one bit.

Here’s what the White House website says: “President Obama understands that abortion is a divisive issue, and respects those who disagree with him. However, he has been a consistent champion of reproductive choice and will make preserving women's rights under Roe v. Wade a priority in his Administration.”

Well, in one way I’m glad I wasn't at the breakfast this year—I was speaking instead at Moody—because I’m not sure I would have been able to stay in my seat.

How can a President of the United States say that “there is no God who condones taking the life of an innocent human being,” when he himself favors a woman’s right to have an abortion under virtually every circumstance? How can he say that, when, as an Illinois state senator, he voted against the Illinois Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected the lives of babies who survived late-term abortions? When he even had the audacity to describe the act as “One more burden on a woman . . . I can’t support.”

President Obama is a highly intelligent man with a huge job on his hands. I know what the White House is like, and I pray for him fervently every day. But how does such an intelligent man make a statement like this without understanding its implications for his own pro-abortion policies?

The only way to explain it is to understand the intellectual environment, called postmodernism, in which President Obama and his peers have been raised. Generations of Americans have now been taught that truth is subjective. You have your truth, I have mine. And, even worse, I can’t “inflict” my version of truth on you. The law of non-contradiction has been suspended.

So politicians can tell us over and over that they can’t allow their personal faith to affect their views on public policy. Or they can take two completely opposing positions at the same time: like believing that no God condones the taking of innocent life and at the same time, condoning—even promoting—the taking of an innocent life.

The problem isn’t simply President Obama and his views on life; the problem is a postmodern culture which believes that truth is merely a matter of opinion, and that therefore the sanctity of innocent human life is simply an expression of one viewpoint among many.

I have argued for the last 20 years that postmodernism would lead to the unraveling or our society. The fact that so few noticed the contradiction in what the President said and the policies he pursues tells me that we’re far along in the unraveling process.

Amazing Grace …”do we “really” understand it?”

This past weekend Sandra & I again watched the movie, Amazing Grace.

I don’t exactly know how many times we have viewed the film, (but it is more than 4 times).

I realized this weekend, that each time I view the film, I learn and glean more.

William Wilberforce faced many, many obstacles in his quest to change the policies of his government. But what really struck me this past weekend was that he, though down-cast in his endeavor, was encouraged by others to perceiver in the face of adversity.

I was reminded of our Lord’s admonition, “Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world!”

My diagnosis correct… Physician's plan in place.

Well Wednesday I had my appointment at the TRIA Orthopedic Center with Dr. Jeffrey Husband.

He is a doctor who “knows his stuff”.

I had diagnosed my condition correctly, (and that makes me feel good and smart, as well) and he was able to treat it properly, as only a Dr. can do.

He gave me an injection of Lidocaine & Cortisone, and fitted me with a removable wrist/thumb brace. The injection was quite painful, and I said to the resident who was in the room, “Is it nighttime?, because I’m seeing stars”.

Here is a photo of the sporty brace I get to wear.

As to the cause of the injury, more was learned on that front too! The condition is also known as “Mother’s Wrist”.

An injury can occur when, say… lifting a toddler or diapering .

Most of you know that “our toddler” is 22 and weighs 110#.

Additionally, during the window of time when I noticed the onset of the problem, I had installed 6 new windows and one new Atrium door. They all weigh far more than Jessica, and those projects are likely the culprits!

“Physician, Heal Thyself”

As many of you may know, I have been troubled by an extremely painful left wrist. Tomorrow I have an appointment with Dr. Jeffrey Husband, at TRIA Orthopedic Clinic. He is a specialist in the areas of wrists.

Today I thought I would do some further research into the condition, that “I believe” I have… that being; “de Quervain’s tenosynovitis.”

It was first diagnosed by the Swiss doctor, Fritz de Quervain, in 1895.

Here is Wikipedia’s definition: de Quervain syndrome (also known as washerwoman's sprain, Radial styloid tenosynovitis, de Quervain disease, de Quervain's tenosynovitis, de Quervain's stenosing tenosynovitis or mother's wrist), is an inflammation or a tendinosis of the sheath or tunnel that surrounds two tendons that control movement of the thumb. ^[1]

While I am a “washerman”… (a.k.a. to Sandra as the… “laundry guy”). Most of what I do is push the start button on the Maytag!

It wasn’t until today, when assembling the billing for a project for one of my customers, that I put… two and two together!

The condition began to present itself in late November. While looking at the calendar and the tasks I had been doing on a job-site for billing purposes, did I realize what may have caused the sprain.

I had been laying a new tile floor in a bathroom.

i.e. mixing & troweling out thin-set, and wringing-out sponges for the grouting process etc.

I will wait however, for the “real” Doctor’s diagnosis tomorrow, and his treatment plan!

Arctic Cold Hits Camelot

Today we awoke to –20 degrees in Bloomington, MN.

JJ is home today, as the day program called and didn’t want to try to drive the roads in sub-zero temps, as it would not be good for their passengers if there was a problem in the drive.

I think it was a “good call” on their part.

When I took these photos, it had begun to “warm”. I think it was only –16 on the thermometer!

The photo of the thermostat shows the house at 65 degrees actual temp, though the stat was set for 68.

The furnace can’t keep up with the call for heat!

We are very thankful for a warm place, regardless.

65 degrees is a whole lot better than being out in the “cold”!!!

Christmas and Hope

A Testimony Amidst Tragedy
December 24, 2008

Dong Yun Yoon of University City, California, will never forget this Christmas. Two weeks ago, his family was killed when a Marine F-18 Hornet fighter jet lost power and crashed into his home.

In an instant, this season of joy become a time of unimaginable sorrow for Yoon.

However, his response to the tragedy can only be described as a great gift to all of us.
The plane’s engines failed during a training flight off the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln.

The pilot, Lt. Dan Neubauer, tried to reach Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego but wound up safely ejecting from the plane about two miles from the station.

The plane crashed into the Yoon’s just-moved-into home. Young Mi Yoon, their daughters Rachel and Grace, and her mother were killed.

While the tragedy was front-page news, what happened next captured the imagination of the country.

The next day, an understandably devastated Yoon told reporters that he didn’t have any “hard feelings” toward the pilot and that he knew that the pilot “did everything he could.”
Not only that, Yoon said, “I pray for him not to suffer for this action,” and called him “one of our treasures for the country.”

Having embodied grace and forgiveness, Yoon then told reporters what made it possible: “I believe my wife and two babies and mother-in-law are in heaven with God,” and he prayed with other family members and friends.

Yoon’s words and actions reminded Adrian Hong, a human rights advocate, of the circumstances surrounding the writing of the hymn “It Is Well with My Soul”—in both instances, tragedy and sorrow were turned into a great witness to the power of Christian hope.

There’s another hymn this episode brings to mind—“Hark the Herald Angels Sing” by Charles Wesley. In the last stanza we sing that Jesus was “born that man no more may die” and “born to raise the sons of earth.”

While we may not associate Christmas and the Incarnation with our Lord’s victory over death, the Church fathers did.

In “On the Incarnation of the Word,” Athanasius wrote that it was because all of us were “under penalty of the corruption of death” that the Word took “to Himself a body capable of death.”
Since the Word “by His one body has come to dwell among” us, “the corruption of death which before was prevailing against [Man] is done away.”

As a result of what Athanasius called “His gracious coming among us,” “the way up into the heavens” is “made ready” for those, like the Yoons, who put their faith in him.

This “new beginning of life for us” and the graciousness that makes it possible is at the heart of the Christian hope. It consoles us and enables us to be gracious even when our world is falling apart.

It is this hope, born on the first Christmas, that Peter tells us we must always be ready to explain. Dong Yun Yoon certainly was. For that, he has my gratitude and prayers.

A few days ago Steven Curtis Chapman had the opportunity to visit the Bethesda Naval Medical Center, a guest of the President’s physician.

It’s become a given on Steven’s schedule over the last 8 years plus. If he has a tour date in the DC area, you’ll find him spending the morning and afternoon at Bethesda. He’s been fortunate to have the chance to meet brave men and women military service personnel there, both the wounded and the medical staff.Two Fridays ago Steven met Corpsman Thomas McBride. He had been wounded in action in Afghanistan and tragically had lost part of his leg. Steven was deeply moved by this man and the sacrifice he had made for this country. In response and with gratitude to Corpsman McBride and all who have served America, Steven penned a new song, “Thomas McBride.” It’s Steven’s great privilege, that this song was delivered this week to Corspman McBride by the President of the United States, George W Bush.On this week that marks Veterans Day 2008, we pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who in defense of our freedom have bravely worn the uniform of the United States.

We sold!

Sandra & I are both so very thankful that all has gone so well.

The transition begins soon to the new house.

We look forward to the time for Sarah & Meg to join us. (Not to mention some unexpected time with Jonas & Lillian)

It will be a time for us all to have some... "more time" at this house.

There are lots of memories here to reconcile and release, and then a time to vision cast for the "new ones, yet to come"

Long Time... No Post!

Dear All,

Sandra & I have been busier than we could ever have imagined in the selling of our house.

It is amazing how much work it is to clean out the "stuff" to have your house ready for "showing".

It would seem that the efforts have paid off however, as our agent believes we'll have an offer by mid-week.

We do know that we have well maintained this property & have done many improvements to it as well, so the idea that we'll have an offer soon is not too surprising.

For me the "surprising" part was how when we heard the "good news" from our realtor, was how misty-eyed Sandra became! We have very many good memories here!

Sandra & I both do love this house; our neighbors on both sides, and also....so very much the backyard, and all the memories we have had there.

This transition will be a tough one!

Wilberforce and The Better Hour...
February 19, 2008

At a recent conference on Christian worldview, a college student asked the question: "Is there a model for engaging secularism?" The panel of well-known experts was stumped, clearly unfamiliar with the fact that 200 years ago a small group of politicians, bankers, writers, and lawyers addressed and overcame the crisis of secularism and immorality in England.

A small group of about 10 friends was known as the Clapham Circle. Following the lead of English parliamentarian William Wilberforce, the Clapham Circle set about with two great, major objectives: In Wilberforce's words, "the suppression of the slave trade and the reformation of manners." In the process, they helped transform the self-indulgent society of eighteenth-century England.

How they did that is the subject of a new book called Creating the Better Hour: Lessons from William Wilberforce, edited by a Centurion, and my friend, Chuck Stetson. The accompanying documentary called The Better Hour airs this month on PBS television stations.

Stetson discusses 10 methods or strategies that Wilberforce and his associates used to shape public opinion. One was the use of a powerful symbol to focus attention on the plight of the slave. Wilberforce enlisted the famous Josiah Wedgwood to create a special cameo. At the center of the cameo was a kneeling slave in shackles. Inscribed around the edges of this picture was the simple, but provocative question: "Am I Not a Man and a Brother?"

The Wedgwood cameo became a kind of logo when the whole concept of a logo was still novel. The picture and the accompanying question became a powerful symbol for human dignity. Women, who at the time could not vote, wore it on their dresses and on jewelry to show their support for the abolition of the slave trade.

The images from the cameo appeared on everything from plates to snuff boxes. The slogan "Am I Not a Man and a Brother?" was as well known to the people of Wilberforce's day as Nike's "Just do it" is to any modern American consumer.

And the slogan posed a pointed question that was simple but brilliant. People who never gave slaves a second thought had to examine their own attitudes and engage the issue. It reminds me of how pro-lifers are using in utero photography to force people to ponder the humanity of babies in the womb.

Stetson goes on to describe the other methods Wilberforce and company used so well: long-term planning, teamwork, research, effective networking, use of volunteers, etc.—methods we Christians would do well to emulate as we tackle the myriad social ills we face in this postmodern, self-indulgent society.

But what I take away from Wilberforce and his circle is not just good ideas about strategies and tactics, but also hope. This small handful of committed believers changed the world. Their unfailing efforts eventually resulted in the abolition of slavery itself in Britain and led to the formation of more than 69 voluntary organizations—organizations that tackled a wide range of social concerns, from child labor to the prevention of cruelty to animals to universal education.
"Is there a model for engaging secularism?"

As Stetson's book shows us, thanks to William Wilberforce and the Clapham sect, there certainly is.

Here are some photos from Jessica's time at the regional MN Special Olympics meet for bowling.

I had posted earlier of her day on October 7th.

One week before these were taken, we had a major lightning strike, very close to our house that took out all of our computers. So I'm just now getting back to posting of the happennings in our household.

Soon I'll post photos of Sandra's time with the Mosley's in FL. Sandra is coming home Saturday evening.

I wish however, that from FL and CA, there would be more posting as well!

Home Again!

Today we took out the waterfront items at our lake cabin. (i.e. 2 boat lifts, the main dock, and addl. dock & pier to second boat lift.)

The work went well enough... it would have gone better, if the winch on the four-wheeler had worked.

No photos to post however.

Hmmm! The previous comment, reminds me that there are two families that need to "get-on-the-stick", and post some photos as well!

GrandDad Jones and Jessica are here in Mpls. (Sandra is enjoying "the real thing" and is with the newest grandbaby "Jonas" and family in FL).... and here I (we) sit waiting, for updates and more photos!

Hopefully, this will get the cameras in action!

Well, I'm back!

Sandra held down the fort on the home front.
I was accompanied by; Dale, Evan, Seth, Brad (and Riley, Ryan & Rory), Dave & Carrie and of course Dad.

We got the important items; as far as furniture, clothing and kitchen items (food of course, as well...) packed and brought down to the Minneapolis area.

Evan & Seth were invaluable!
Evan has worked for some time for Quality Moving & Transfer in Edina, MN.

His expertise in loading a truck was proven. When I arrived home this evening, and opened the back door, all the items were still in the same spots we put them!

Tomorrow, I will unload the truck and set-up Dad in his new place.

This weekend we will move my father from his home in Northern MN., to a new apartment in Richfield, MN.

I (we) are renting a 26' U-Haul truck for the task. We had reserved the truck about a week and a half ago.

Here is the "mover beware" part.

I called on Thursday to confirm the rental and to order 18 moving pads as well.
I found out that they wouldn't have a truck for us at the location we chose.
The good part is that the U-Haul rental location was very proactive in helping us find one within close proximity.

I had experienced a similar situation when we moved Sarah's things to FL.
I had reserved a trailer, and had a specific pick-up date....but no trailer!

It is always best to call ahead and confirm!

I will post again to re-cap the events of the move.

So now we are in the middle of what one observer calls a "global baby bust"—except, that is, among devout Christian families, those who take seriously the biblical mandate to "be fruitful and multiply." It shows that when Christians live out the biblical worldview, we not only survive, we thrive.

Sandra & I seem to have children with a "Christian World View", who are doing their part in this endeavor. Sarah & Nathanael are soon to have their third!

I hope my next blog post is a photo of the newest... Mosley baby!

Please pray for them, as they await this gift from above.

Meggan & Sarah are both "Ladies in Waiting".

I hope that is not a poor choice of words!?

I'm not that well read.

However, Meggan joined her sister Sarah in Florida this past Wednesday.

Sarah is due to have her third any day. They have had fun together, and Meggan has been able to be of help to Sarah and family while they await the new arrival.

It was our hope the the newest Mosley would be here by now, but the "womb weaver" (as Sandy & I have referred to our Lord in the past) has chosen to keep this new one under wraps for a bit longer.

On Tuesday, Sarah will visit her midwife for a check-up.

I've included some photos we received from Nathanael this morning.

The House that Duane Built

This weekend we (Clark Thomas & I), moved the play house from its elevated position, to that of a more on-grade position.

From a fort with swings, ramp & slide, to a playhouse for our grandbabies to play house in, on their visits to Minneapolis.

The next transformation will be to re-roof it with asphalt shingles and re-side it with vinyl siding.

It might even get a cupola for its roof!

Then painting of the interior, carpeting and re-connection of the electric.

Well our Jessica completed her events in this year's MN State Special Olympic Summer Games.

On Thursday, Jessica brought home a Gold for the Tennis Ball Throw event.

Today she came home with a Gold in the 50 meter dash, and a Silver in the 100 meter Walk.
Jessica is quite delighted, and enjoys wearing the medals.

This past weekend, Sandra & I enjoyed at little R & R.
O.K. ...the biking part wasn't too restful, we bicycled 34 miles on Saturday.
We did enjoy it however, and we certainly benefited from the exercise.

This is a place that the majesty and creativity of our Lord, really shines.

If you read the literature from the MN & WI DNR offices, they would say that this area was formed millions of years ago, by the glaciers that melted after the first ice age.

I myself, being a believer of a younger earth, would disagree. However, the beauty is astounding!

Heartfelt Confessions

Several years ago I visited an art gallery that contained an incredible display of ceramic art. It was about 15 ceramic pieces, all mounted on a blackboard. They were all life-size hearts, each crafted and painted differently from the other. I was captivated by the intricate work on each one and the themes each represented. One heart appeared to be encased in ice, another made to look like steel with bolts in it, and another had barbed wire wrapped all around. Another heart was cracked and broken into pieces, one was made out of glass and hollow, another had prison bars on the front, one looked sickly with rotting tissue and sunken-in sides, one like a dirt clod, and another one made to look of solid stone. Then finally there was one that stood out strikingly from all the others as strong, healthy, and alive. It was bright blood red and seemed almost lifelike.

An obvious point of the display was to give a longing for the vigorous and vibrant heart. As I stood for a very long time contemplating the hearts, I was intrigued not so much by the amazing creativity and craftsmanship, but rather by how they each symbolized my own heart at various times:

Hard – inflexible to the work of the Holy Spirit.
Calloused – insensitive to the concerns of the Kingdom.
Cold – lacking any warmth to Jesus or others.
Dirty – incapable of any pure-hearted desire.
Hollow – empty and void to the greater things of life.
Wandering – meandering off and finding another to whom I could give affection. Becoming distant and removed from God and others.

In recent years I have witnessed not only how my heart can change from one type to another but also how quickly. It is almost embarrassing to see how I can spend a beautiful time with the Lord and then hours, if not minutes, later, my heart has left the wonderful condition it was in and become hardened, wandering, and deceived. Often a line from an old hymn comes to mind as I witness my fickle tendencies –

Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

(From “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing”)

The good part however, is that now I am noticing the change. I guess my heart has become more sensitive than I ever thought. That is what happens when one allows Christ to fill it and change it.

Even better is my discovery that whenever I sense my heart being distant from the Lord, I need only to instantly come before Him and bask in His presence through prayer, worship, and His Word. It will only be a matter of time before my heart begins to change—softening, warming, becoming tender, beating again with life and vigor. 1 John 3:20 reminds us that God is greater than our hearts. He overcomes my hardness and fills my heart with the life-giving truths of Him. What I desire begins to change. How I view life and others begins to change. I change.

It is a sure thing, and it is so very simple. Draw near to God and your heart will be changed. What makes it even more incredible is that the Lord will never turn away a heart that wants Him and wants to be changed—never.

As believers in Christ, He has a permanent residence within our hearts, but we also have a responsibility for what we do with our heart. We, as well as others, live with the consequences of what we choose. A few days ago I was in a board meeting for an international mission organization. In the opening minutes of the meeting I sat there wondering why I flew all the way out and why the ministry even existed when so many other agencies were doing a similar work. “Perhaps we should just can this whole thing,” I thought to myself.

After a few minutes, they looked to me to lead us in a time of praise and prayer. I took a deep, determined breath and turned my attention to the Lord. We searched how He reveals Himself in His Word and recounted His worthiness back to Him. It couldn’t have been five minutes before my mind was racing delightfully with thoughts of what a strategic and powerful ministry this actually was and how God’s heart was for the lost of the world. My heart and my mind were radically different from when I entered that meeting. I could have sown seeds of dissent and despair. Instead I was able to give hope and vision.

As we bring our heart close to Christ He:
Melts it – real life begins to flow.
Softens it – we are sensitive to His leading.
Makes it beat - alongside His so that we can sense and feel what He feels. We end up loving what He loves, hating what He hates, caring for those He cares for, and longing to be with Him.

By faith, come to Him and “set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1b). You will not leave the same as you came. You can’t change your heart. You can’t change your attitude. You can’t change your ways. But Christ can. Your heart belongs to Him. As we yield it back to Him, He transforms us in every way. And the longer we are there acknowledging His presence, the more our heart is changed.

Wanna do a test? Right now, take just five minutes and go to Him in prayer. Open His Word and allow Him to speak. Watch as your heart and mind change in the midst of His glorious presence. And by the way, that five minutes will seem far to short. Go ahead and take fifteen.

More evidence that "temperatures are rising"!!! ?????

Here's a quote from MLB on Yahoo.

"And temperatures aren't the only thing that's way down: Home runs plunged during the season's frigid first week to their lowest level since 1993, with average dropping from 2.4 in last season's opening week to 1.8 this year. It hadn't been that low since a 1.6 average 14 years ago, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

So does mean that we are in a global meltdown???

Well today marked our first full day.

We tickled our toes in the water of the Gulf, went for a walk, had baths and got ready to meet up with all the Mosley clan we could find! We had dinner at Nida's in Niceville, FL.

The food was delicious, and the room was a rockin! I don't have an exact count, of all in attendance at dinner, but we definitely made a presence in the little restaurant.

Amazing... "Amazing Grace" ....the movie

Well, we were successful in our second attempt to see this film, this weekend.

Sandra & I were able to get in to the matinee on Saturday. We thoroughly enjoyed the film.

We both offer it two thumbs up!

While it is not; a fast paced, thriller or action film... it conveys truths and cause to be proactive in the area of faith & action.

John Newton was, by his own admission, a reprobate and Capt. of a "slave ship".
He was met by Christ, (not too unlike how Saul was met on the road to Damascus).
John Newton too, was changed forever.
He became a pastor of a church in England where he met Wilberforce in his early years.

It was in Newton's later years, failing health and suffering with blindness, that he challenged William Wilberforce to persevere in his quest to abolish the slave trade.

The quote from the movie that hit me most was... "I once was blind, but now I see..."

I found myself, more than once, with my heart in my throat. The scenes were gripping and provided the resolution in my heart, to persevere in this present day!

The evils of the slave trade of 200 years ago, in many ways relate the questions of today.
I.E. Human Trafficking, Abortion on demand, religious persecution and more!

We all need to see this film... to be challenged to consider how we need to be more involved, and how we cannot turn a blind eye to injustice and most importantly..."to not give up"!

Global Warming + "News from the Weird"

I had to laugh today.

Minneapolis temperature is -6F with windchill temps in the minus 20-30 degree range. Forecast is for extended below zero readings for the next several days.

While reading headlines on my Yahoo! home page. I came across this......

Well, it seems to me, all of the scientists and environmentalists who are predicting this global warming trend aren't living in MN!

In fact, even the groundhog in Pennsylvania is calling for an early spring too!

I went there to see if our friend, Rod Martin had posted, on an issue that is currently in Washington, D.C. and was eager to know his thoughts on the issue.

Rod is well informed, well educated, .....and well ....."I didn't even know half of it!"

"The President's Plan"

Today marks Day 1, of the plan President Bush laid out last evening.
The plan is one of "forward thinking" as to how to progress in Iraq.

While I have not "been there" or "done that" myself... I have heard personally from a gentleman who lives in Iraq, in fact, central Bagdad. He is very thankful for the U.S. and the involvement we have had in his country.

As I said to a friend today, the very fact of the huge voter turnout in the Iraqi elections, show that they want change, and need change!

My prayer is that they will seek change.

Actually and more importantly, that they will seek and find Christ.
For only He, can and will, provide the true change that is needed!

These are perilous times in which we live.

Pray that He, (our Lord Christ) will be exalted!

Today marked the end of the Mosley's time with us in MN.

We had a delightful time with them, though short it was!

Sandra & I enjoyed all the baby time with them, and we will miss it greatly.

The babies sure grow up quickly! It was so cute to hear Evelyn's emerging vocabulary.

As a parent of a disabled child, I find this chilling.

In Jessica's case, we were shocked to find that the early diagnosis of her condition from an in-uterine ultra sound...(and that from 20 years ago)... the medical community was saying that many parents would choose to abort the pregnancy.

On this side of her birth, we are ever thankful for the blessings of her birth and life.

Both to us as parents...and the impact of her life on her sisters, as well as thru countless individuals whose lives have crossed paths with Jessica's!

Has it been easy??? No.
Has it been worthwhile?
Has Christ been glorified through it? Absolutly!!!!!

"The truth of the matter is that the ones heaping derision on Christians are probably the ones who most need our prayers. So, in the end, maybe the best way to prepare for this cold front is by fanning the coal of our own devotion to Christ through good works. If our lives are aflame with care for the least, the last, and the lost, .....perhaps even the coldest hearts will thaw.

As we prepare ourselves for the celebration of His first advent... let us look to how we ourselves live, act and respond to those around us.

The goal is... to direct and assist those around us, to an understanding & embracing of the Lord whom we love. ....for apart from Him, we can do nothing!

Let us all point to CHRIST, who is our all in ALL!

Well its been some time since my last cinematic review. O.K. I can not actully say I have seen this new release, ....because I haven't!
( I was not one that enjoyed the pre-release screening.)

But upon good authority, I have heard this is a film worth seeing.

It is due to release in theaters nationwide on December 1st.

Here is a passage that I have been thinking of this week.

But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

Continued below is the rest of the passage from the Philipians 3:8 - 14 NAS....

More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

As we ponder this coming Thanksgiving holiday, let us truly give thanks!

When it really itchs..PRAY! and Get Medical Help!

Dear and Gentle Reader,

Please be in prayer for Meggan especially, but also for her dear care provider Bryan, and of course for little Lillian.

Last week Meggan began to be affected by what would appear to be a post-pregnancy related rash. I believe Sandra & I can speak to this with some authority, as Sandra too personally experienced the same sort of condition after the birth of Sarah... (now 26 years ago).

Meggan has now for one week, been dealing with this and does not seem to be getting relief.

As our dermatologist, Dr. John Bergman, told me in Sandra's case, "Severe itching is a very real form of pain. You need to do all you can do to help her in every way you can."
This charge I pass along to Bryan.

I am at present in consultation with Dr. Bergman's office to see if there is a colleague in Meg's area that he knows who Meggan can get in to see. He has both Sandra's and Meggan's chart pulled and is to call me this morning.

"I Should be a Political Analyst"!

Today I checked my blog's "hit counter".

On Wednesday of last week (day 1 - of past election) I had 42 "hits" for the day on my blog, on the daily hit counter.

Since then...."I've flat-lined!!!!" (five to ten per day)

I guess it tells me, that the titles of my posts, must cause increased activity on the blog.

Anyhow, this I do know,... that those who do visit my blog (on a daily basis), are the ones that matter the most!
